Les formes s\u2019inscrivent dans une palette pastel domin\u00e9e par un cama\u00efeu de gris teint\u00e9s de vert, de rose et de bleu, qui en adoucissent les contrastes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cet environnement trouve son origine dans une pratique quotidienne d\u2019atelier : faire, r\u00e9parer, assembler, sans toujours savoir pourquoi. Travailler pour soi, d\u00e9sacraliser les gestes, d\u00e9complexer les formes. Customiser plut\u00f4t que cr\u00e9er ex nihilo pour faire parler ce qui existe d\u00e9j\u00e0. Tom Castinel chine et r\u00e9cup\u00e8re des tissus us\u00e9s et des meubles en m\u00e9tal qu\u2019il transforme par des gestes d\u2019assemblage, de couture et de recouvrement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le b\u00e9ton est travaill\u00e9 selon la technique du rocaillage, proc\u00e9d\u00e9 d\u00e9coratif qui consiste \u00e0 modeler le ciment sur une armature m\u00e9tallique afin d\u2019imiter le min\u00e9ral et le v\u00e9g\u00e9tal. Appliqu\u00e9 \u00e0 la main, il recouvre les meubles sans en effacer la m\u00e9moire. On reconna\u00eet encore des \u00e9tag\u00e8res mais leurs montants semblent se ramifier et se fossiliser. De loin, les formes \u00e9voquent le bois, tandis que de pr\u00e8s la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 du ciment rappelle davantage la roche, installant l\u2019ensemble dans un entre-deux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parall\u00e8lement, il constitue une collection d\u2019objets d\u00e9coratifs. Bibelots sentimentaux, ornements modestes, souvenirs \u00e0 faible valeur marchande mais charg\u00e9s d\u2019affects, Chez lui comme dans l\u2019exposition, il les met en relation. Ces statuettes sont m\u00e9ticuleusement plac\u00e9es, presque coll\u00e9es les unes aux autres, formant des configurations o\u00f9 l\u2019accumulation devient un principe de composition. \u00c0 KOMMET, des chats et des chiens aux cous allong\u00e9s composent un groupe \u00e9trange, \u00e0 la fois \u00e9l\u00e9gant et disproportionn\u00e9. Cet ensemble fait appara\u00eetre un portrait collectif, \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re d\u2019une photo de famille, d\u2019une bande d\u2019ami\u2022es ou d\u2019une communaut\u00e9 d\u2019affinit\u00e9s. Il agit comme un diorama affectif, structur\u00e9 par un attachement subjectif autant que par une correspondance formelle, comme si ces objets s\u2019\u00e9taient choisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce jeu d\u2019associations et de collage se prolonge \u00e9galement dans le travail du textile, o\u00f9 le patchwork devient une mani\u00e8re d\u2019assembler et de dessiner par fragments. Les tissus sont recompos\u00e9s selon une logique d\u2019ornement et de r\u00e9p\u00e9tition. La technique du <em>quilting<\/em>, qui consiste \u00e0 coudre ensemble plusieurs couches de tissu, vient fixer et consolider ces surfaces. En traversant les diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9paisseurs, la couture inscrit le geste dans le temps long. Assembler devient aussi une forme de r\u00e9paration, technique autant que symbolique. La suture n\u2019est pas dissimul\u00e9e mais affirm\u00e9e ; elle devient ligne, rythme, structure. Ce qui \u00e9tait fragment\u00e9 n\u2019est pas effac\u00e9, mais maintenu ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019int\u00e9rieur de l\u2019espace du centre d\u2019art semble d\u2019abord paisible. Pourtant, quelque chose r\u00e9siste \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9vidence du d\u00e9cor. Les \u0153uvres se tiennent dans un entre-deux, entre confort domestique et l\u00e9g\u00e8re inqui\u00e9tude. Sur l\u2019\u00e9tag\u00e8re, les objets composent une petite mise en sc\u00e8ne. Leurs regards peints, leurs sourires fig\u00e9s, leurs postures un peu raides appartiennent \u00e0 un imaginaire d\u00e9suet. Rien ne bouge, rien ne d\u00e9borde, et c\u2019est peut-\u00eatre pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment cette immobilit\u00e9 qui trouble. Le titre <em>Aigreur douce<\/em> d\u00e9signe cet \u00e9tat. Il ne renvoie pas \u00e0 une nostalgie tourn\u00e9e vers le pass\u00e9, mais \u00e0 une tension affective o\u00f9 se m\u00ealent attachement et lucidit\u00e9. Les cama\u00efeux de gris, les touches pastel discr\u00e8tes et la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 des surfaces participent de cette retenue. Le b\u00e9ton se r\u00e9chauffe par la courbe, le meuble se modifie par la greffe, le textile invite au contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Qu\u2019il s\u2019agisse de meuble, de rebut, de sculpture ou de d\u00e9cor, Tom Castinel interroge notre rapport aux objets domestiques et \u00e0 la valeur que nous leur attribuons. Dans le centre d\u2019art, les \u0153uvres occupent une position donn\u00e9e mais ce statut demeure provisoire. Fid\u00e8le \u00e0 sa logique de transformation, chaque objet reste ouvert \u00e0 d\u2019autres usages et \u00e0 d\u2019autres contextes. L\u2019exposition devient un espace \u00e0 tiroirs o\u00f9 se rejouent des questions d\u2019attachement, de d\u00e9sir et de communaut\u00e9. Dans cette \u00ab aigreur douce \u00bb, il y a moins un regret qu\u2019un mouvement, celui de transformer sans effacer, de r\u00e9parer sans id\u00e9aliser et de laisser aux choses la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019un autre devenir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><strong>\u00c9milie d&#8217;Ornano<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Biographie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N\u00e9 en 1984 \u00e0 Lyon, <strong>Tom Castinel<\/strong> vit et travaille. Il est dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 de l\u2019\u00c9cole nationale sup\u00e9rieure des beaux-arts de Lyon en 2011 et compl\u00e8te sa formation avec une ann\u00e9e de Master en anthropologie de la danse \u00e0 l\u2019UCA Clermont-Ferrand en 2019. Son travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 In extenso (Clermont-Ferrand), au 19 Crac (Montb\u00e9liard), \u00e0 la galerie S\u00e9bastien Lepeuve (Paris), \u00e0 la Maison des arts de Malakoff ou encore au Frac Champagne-Ardenne (Reims). Tom Castinel r\u00e9alise plusieurs r\u00e9sidences, notamment dans le Massif des \u00c9crins avec l\u2019Envers des Pentes, \u00e0 Air Antwerpen (Anvers, Belgique), \u00e0 la Halle 14 \u2013 Zentrum f\u00fcr Zeitgen\u00f6ssische Kunst (Leipzig, Allemagne) ou encore \u00e0 Moly-Sabata (Sablons). Actuellement, il co-dirige avec Marie L\u2019Hours La T\u00f4lerie, l\u2019Espace Municipal d\u2019Art Contemporain de Clermont-Ferrand.
